Jupiter’s Song

Khaleb Brooks in his exhibition Jupiter's Song

Jupiter’s Song is a powerful exhibition, exploring perspectives and experiences inspired by the Earle Collection of documents at the International Slavery Museum. Focussing on these documents, international artist Khaleb Brooks hopes to bring a new perspective and greater visibility to Liverpool’s history archive.

We were asked to create two videos for the International Slavery Museum; a trailer for the exhibition and a behind-the-scenes film focussing on the artist and process.

The trailer was designed to be uncomfortable, teasing the exhibition whilst giving the audience a glimpse into the emotions Jupiter’s Song expresses. We filmed the trailer in one day’s shoot in the Martin Luther King Jr building on the Albert Docks. It was a great chance for us to get a little creative with our lighting, dusting off the old redheads to create distinct looming silhouettes across the room, getting the macro lens in tight to some of Khaleb’s beautifully crafted work and all captured in an intense few hours before the exhibition opens daily to the public. What a morning that was!

We love working with artists and going behind the curtain, so to speak, to see how they do what they do. This Behind the scenes film shows the lengths the artist went to when creating each asset for the piece, handcrafting every unique shell. Filmed across Liverpool, in the Strand Shopping Centre - Khaleb’s temporary studio, the International Slavery Museum and the Martin Luther King Jr building culminating in a sit-down interview with Khaleb Brooks.

Working with National Museums Liverpool is always a treat for us, not only are they the nicest team of people and a local client but the content we create always teaches us something new and when it’s a bit of history about our home city it’s even better.
